About InterContinental - The O2
The hotel features 453 spacious guest rooms and suites spread over 18 floors. The restaurants and bars have been designed as destination venues, with an impressive lineup of all day dining and fine dining options, as well as the Ground floor Meridian Bar and the Tea Salon which perfectly complement the vibrant “18th floor” Sky Bar.
Century Lighting and InterContinental - The O2
All the front of house light fittings, from the reception area, corridors and meeting rooms through to the Sky Bar, gym & spa and the enormous ballroom are LED which deliver not only great flexibility but also high levels of reliability and excellent energy efficiency. Delivering a project of this scale, over 600 LED drivers and boards were required, on time and on budget required close co-operation between the main M&E Contractor, HE Simm and Century Lighting.
Like many modern structures much of the exterior of the hotel consists of vast glass windows, which not only allow as much natural light to flood the interior but also give guests the chance to view what is rapidly becoming an iconic skyline ie Canary Wharf and its surroundings. The designer and his team were keen to make the most of the hotel's location but at night when the view is arguably at its most impressive large panes of glass, many spanning two floors, can act more as a mirror of the interior and thus distort the external view. The lighting needed to be soft enough to eliminate this problem but also provide an ambiance that enhanced the drama of the building and the setting, whilst making people feel welcome and relaxed.
